Sounds True was founded in 1985 by Tami Simon with a clear mission: to disseminate spiritual wisdom. Since starting out as a project with one woman and her tape recorder, we have grown into a multimedia publishing company with more than 80 employees (and 15 dogs), a library of more than 1,000 titles featuring some of the leading teachers and visionaries of our time, and an ever-expanding family of customers from across the world. In over two decades of growth, change, and evolution, Sounds True has maintained its focus on its overriding purpose, as summed up in our Vision Statement:
Sounds True exists to inspire, support, and serve personal transformation and spiritual awakening.
Sounds True’s titles embrace the world’s major spiritual traditions, as well as the arts and humanities, embodied by the leading authors, teachers, and visionary artists of our time. Our approach to publishing is not dependent on a single format or technology—rather, we strive with every title to preserve the essential “living wisdom” of the author, artist, or spiritual teacher. It is our goal to create products that not only provide information to a reader or listener, but that also embody the essential quality of a wisdom transmission between a teacher and a student.

Who is Tami Simon?
Tami Simon is Founder and Publisher of Sounds True, an independent multimedia publishing company based in Boulder, Colorado. Sounds True exists to inspire, support, and serve personal transformation and spiritual awakening.
With a religious studies background and a passion for community public radio, Tami launched Sounds True in 1985 when she was 22 years old. She had recently returned from a year spent traveling in India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal to study meditation, the practice that continues to anchor her life and inform Sounds True’s publishing mission and business principles.
Tami is a founding member of the Integral Institute, a long-time member of the Social Venture Network, a Dharma Ocean Foundation board member, and a meditation instructor under the guidance of Dharma Ocean director Reggie Ray, who is carrying on the practicing lineage of Tibetan Buddhist teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.
Familiar to many as “the voice of Sounds True,” Tami introduces each audio program and conducts in-studio author dialogs and podcasts. She has interviewed such luminaries as Eckhart Tolle, Ken Wilber, Thich Nhat Hanh, Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Andrew Weil, Caroline Myss, and Pema Chödrön, and has served as executive producer for more than 500 recordings.
Tami founded Sounds True on the premise that listening is one of the most powerful ways to transform consciousness, whether it is listening to healing music or the voice of an inspired spiritual teacher. She cares passionately about the common path of transformation that that is offered by all of the wisdom traditions of the world.
Tami lives in Boulder, Colorado with her love, Julie Kramer, and Jasmine, their cocker spaniel.
