About the Book

When Leigh Fortson was given her third cancer diagnosis in 2008, her doctor offered few treatment options and little hope. Unwilling to believe there was nothing left to do, Fortson set out to learn all she could about how diet impacts cancer, treatment alternatives, and the power of the mind-body relationship.

Now cancer free, Fortson shares with us Embrace, Release, Heal, the fruits of her research and spiritual awakening distilled into one empowering book. With insights gleaned from a dozen experts, remarkable stories from people who have lived through cancer, and practical tools, this guide will help anyone whose life has been impacted by a cancer diagnosis. Covering the physical, emotional, and spiritual layers of the journey, this in-depth resource explores:

  • The pioneering science on how our mind and emotions can contribute to both the cause and healing of a disease, as understood by Dr. Larry Dossey, Dr. Bruce H. Lipton, and more
  • Interviews with 20 experts that show what Fortson considers the most progressive traditional, holistic, or integrative cancer treatment techniques
  • How nutrition and supplements can yield surprising results (including the raw food diet)
  • Ways to access the healing power of your subconscious mind and effectively use your intuition

Whether you’re trying to uncover what it means to have cancer or how to make sense of it, here is an uplifting and informative book to help you to reclaim your authority and make empowered choices that are right for your health and well-being.

Experts Interviewed

Embrace, Release, Heal features exclusive interviews with 20 of the world’s most innovative and renowned doctors, researchers, authors and authorities who reveal their understanding of the biological and emotional influences of cancer, and how to treat it. The blend of their wisdom, scientific study and most especially their passion provides inspiration and well-founded hope for dealing with the most prevalent and vexing disease of our time.

About the Author

Leigh Fortson was born in Denver and received her B.A. in writing from the Evergreen State College. She spent decades learning about and practicing healthy lifestyle habits and was shocked to find out in 2006 that she had cancer.  Today she lives in Colorado with her family and continues to manage her life so she can maintain a clean bill of health.

What People Are Saying

“Leigh Fortson has journeyed through territory where many will eventually go — the land of cancer.  She has returned a very wise woman, whose insights will empower anyone with this diagnosis.  The stories and interviews in Embrace, Release, Heal are full of hope and meaning. I hope this inspiring book is widely read.”
–Larry Dossey, MD, author of The Science of Premonitions

“America badly needs to expand its perspective on how to treat people with cancer. Limiting treatment to killing cancer cells without nurturing the person is like spraying roses without making sure that the soil they grow in contains the nutrients they require in order to thrive. Embrace,Release, Heal expands that perspective in a very personal moving, and expert way. A must read if you or someone you love is dealing with cancer.”
–Martin Rossman, MD, author, Fighting Cancer from Within

“At last! In Embrace, Release, Heal we have testimony that proves that the healing of cancer involves the psychosomatic network of energy, mind, and spirit. Leigh Fortson is so courageous, not only for surviving her ordeal, but also for standing up to the cancer docs who were shocked by the independent thinking and bold decisions that led to her recovery. This is a gripping, compassionate, and well-researched expose that I hope will revolutionize cancer treatment in this country.”
–Candace Pert, PhD, author of Molecules of Emotion

“Cancer patients face a bewildering array of emotions upon diagnosis, followed by a vast smorgasbord of treatment possibilities ranging from conventional medicine to alternative and complementary therapies.  How does a patient cope with this onslaught, and how do they decide the course of their own therapy?  With Embrace, Release, Heal, Leigh Fortson recounts her own journey with cancer, and gives us an extraordinary mix of personal anecdote, case studies, thoughtful analyses, and expert opinion in a positive and life-affirming fashion.”
–William Bengston, PhD, author of The Energy Cure

“This is a story of healing—of body, mind and spirit. Leigh Fortson’s informational book is a must read for any patient with a cancer diagnosis. The purpose of the book is to empower those with cancer—or any type of degenerative illness—during a time when feeling empowered is in short supply.”
– Diane Brandley, MSN, New York Journal of Books (read full review)

“Embrace, Release, Heal is a marvelous, enlightening and inspiring book for all those interested in natural, holistic healing. Although it’s packed with relevant and intriguing information, it’s got an empowering message and many real-life happy endings.”
